Flatten is a non-profit organization focused on developing agile, inexpensive and robust self-reporting participatory syndromic surveillance tools for the COVID-19 pandemic internationally. We aim to broaden epidemiological data-collection processes while informing healthcare policy formulation, and helping to refine healthcare efforts. is looking to contract 3 data scientists with public health experience in its continued efforts to support COVID-19 research in population statistics, syndromic surveillance in Canada and Sub-Saharan Africa. 


You Will: 

    • Support local humanitarian aid organizations in providing insights towards real-time data that is being gathered.

    • Characterize datasets from both Canada and Somalia

    • Work with partnered organizations in collaborative research efforts.

You Have:

    • 3+ years of data science experience, experience with MongoDB and Python are required. 

    • Experience in public health data science research

    • Understanding of fundamental ML concepts like metrics, biases, and datasets

    • A constant desire to grow and learn

    • Strong cross-team communication and collaboration skills

    • A desire to see teammates succeed together 

Nice to haves, but not mandatory qualifications:

    • Research publications in public health 

    • Experience productionalizing ML models

    • Background in Public Health
